Apple confirms acquisition of InVisage Technologies

Luxury phone makers Apple have announced the acquisition of a camera sensor company called InVisage Technologies.

In a report from TechCrunch, they have “confirmed” that Apple has indeed acquired the company. Apple has also more or less confirmed the acquisition in a boilerplate statement to the publication that reads, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

It doesn’t sound like a full-on confirmation, but based on Apple’s past behaviors regarding rumors, they tend to keep mum on them rather than offer an official statement, so we guess this is as close as we get.

It is unclear what Apple plans to do with InVisage Technologies, but the company’s core technology involves something called QuantumFilm, which combines software and material science to help create better photos under non-optimal lighting conditions.

Basically it could potentially lead to the iPhone taking better photos in low-light situations, something that Apple’s competitors seem to be better at.
